Ange Postecoglou has defended his team after Tottenham's incredible performance in their 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Spurs aimed to stay close to London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League but could not capitalize against the Cottagers.

Brennan Johnson volleyed home from Timo Werner's assist for his 10th goal of the season and provided a lift for a Spurs side missing Dominic Solanke through illness.

Fulham, however, equalized when substitute Tom Cearney fired past Fraser Forster in the 67th minute, although Cearney was later sent off following a VAR review for a dangerous tackle on Kuluszewski.

The result leaves Tottenham in seventh place, just a week after an impressive 4-0 win over Manchester City.

Despite the setback, Postecoglou stressed the need to protect his players due to increasing injuries and availability issues.

“We will have to protect our players because like I said, we are within our numbers and Deci played every minute. I have rarely turned him down,” Postecoglou said.

“So we just have to be careful with him and a few others, but we don't have too many options at the moment so we just have to try to manage them as best we can and obviously what affects the performance.

“It's too easy to say, let's play like we did against Man City every game.

β€œAnd with this club it somehow seems again that whatever we do well is then used as a millstone to bring us down at every other opportunity.

“I guess from my perspective, as I keep saying, it's really important that we don't react to any of that and just stay focused.

“I just feel sometimes that, especially the players we've got at the moment, they're just working really hard for this football club to try and progress to where we want to be.”

“We're in good shape, we're still in good shape. We are still in a decent position in the league.

“We're still in the Carabao Cup, we're in a decent position in Europe, so we have to keep our focus on continuing to develop.”
