Alvin and the Chipmunks had a horror crossover with the Wolfman

With his new film “Wolf Man,” Leigh Whannell becomes the latest filmmaker to tackle the classic Universal shape-shifting monster on screen. In his review of Whannell’s reimagining, /Film’s Jeremy Mathai observed that the film “reinvents the title character and his accompanying curse as a moody, atmospheric thriller that worries just as much (if not more) of the family at the center of it. tragedy as the present fear.”

Part of what makes werewolf movies unique is that these aren’t just monsters, but people who shift back and forth between being monster and human. This allows the werewolf film to be versatile; rather than having to rely on his characters to keep coming to meet the monster for plot convenience, the monster stays with the characters throughout the films, hiding among them, until it’s too late. Werewolf movies make great fantasy films, horror comedies, body horror pics, dramas, Westerns, and more – as evidenced by our own list of the best werewolf movies ever. It’s not just R-rated genre films for adult audiences; In fact, there are many children’s media that tackle the werewolf with whimsy and fun, with “Goosebumps”, “Scooby-Doo” and the “Ghostbusters” cartoon series all putting a children’s spin on the concept.

Indeed, one of the most curious and unexpected remakes of the horror subgenre combines the classic story of werewolves with a beloved franchise of singing rodents. That’s right, Alvin and the Chipmunks meet the Wolfman at one point, and it’s as freakishly funny as you can imagine.

Alvin and the Chipmunks encounter many classic monsters

In “Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman”, Alvin is convinced that his neighbor is a wolf and has nightmares about him. While looking for proof, he and his brother Simon do not forget the fact that their neighbor is innocent, but that is it a werewolf among them—namely, Theodore. Yes, this is a children’s cartoon about a rodent that turns into an adorable wolf (a chip-wolf, if you will). He’s very silly and cute, and a fun take on the classic monster.

It’s not even the first time that Alvin and his brothers have encountered a classic universal monster. Like Abbott and Costello, the Chipmunks were on their way to meet every major monster in the Universe at one point, starting with Frankenstein in 1999’s “Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein” before their “Wolfman” crossover in 2000. (Sadly, none of the Chipmunks turned into Frankenstein’s monster during the first one.) Unfortunately, the chipmunks never got to meet Dracula. A third “Meet” movie was proposed after “Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman,” but was canceled after franchise creators Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and Janice Karman sued Universal for breach of contract and won the rights to the characters in 2000 – meaning Universal could no longer make any more direct-to-media “Chipmunks” animated films. That’s life.
