What’s different this time? | Nerd fitness

Today is the most hopeful and bright day of the year.

It’s great!

email

Whatever goals or resolutions you set for yourself, I’m excited for you!

We’re all trying to improve ourselves, and even if things don’t work out the way we wanted them to before, we hope. At this time It will be different.

Musician Nick Cave describes hope as “a broken heart,” and I think that’s pretty accurate. We’re all trying to break up when change is so hard.

If you’re trying to build a new exercise habit or change the numbers on the scale this year, I say hello. Setting a goal to make a difference is commendable.

But to give ourselves the best chance of reaching our goal, we need to combine that goal with some self-reflection and self-awareness.

In the year Here are two questions to ask yourself as we begin 2025…

Question 1: What’s different this time?

I’m proud of you for starting over.

But what is different from this experiment?

If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve got.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

If you choose a goal or strategy you’ve tried (and failed) in the past, the end result will be the same: another lost year of “Why can’t I get it together?” is that

So, imagine what’s different this time!

“Don’t just go on XYZ diet” or “Give up all sugar forever” or “Don’t train for a marathon” especially if you’ve tried these things before and couldn’t stick with them.

Something must be different this time:

  • Make fewer changes.
  • Pick a goal and focus on it.
  • Choose a different type of exercise.
  • Choose a different diet or diet change.
  • Choose a different time of day to work.
  • Hire a friend to join you so you don’t work alone.
  • Make the new desired behavior .Important or important..

Convince yourself that you have learned something from your past experiments. Don’t let past failures be useless – they have shown you what is useless for you

Try something different this time!

Question 2: What are you afraid of?

You’re full of energy right now, and that’s great.

But after three weeks, life happens, and something goes wrong.

What was your attitude when this happened last time?

We ask each .NF coach client. Before they start, ask, “What are you most worried about?”

That answer is something you know from past experiments.

Are you going to be busy and want to “take a break until things slow down?” great! Now that that little voice in your head is saying this, you can prepare for it, plan to do something different, and decide not to do it. they have To listen to the voice in your head.

Are you having a bad day and going completely off the rails? great! Now you know that when you have a bad day, you can forgive yourself, not look back with anger or guilt, and get back on track.

Are you about to give up even though you really want to push? great! It happens to all of us when motivation wanes after a few weeks. Think about it .Adding the Ulysses deal. Making a bet with a friend to protect against your weaknesses or hold you accountable.

NFL coach Matt Myers recently announced that .The Mental Golf Podcast with Josh Nichols. – And at the 24:30 mark of the episode, Matt points out his surprise to Josh:

“You told me before you started, ‘I know I’m going to get out the door hard, but after 3 weeks I’m burned out and I’m going to be gone.’

And I said, ‘Thanks for letting me know,’ and I’m ready to reconfirm all these alerts and alarms at the 21-day mark!”

Josh had the self-awareness to know where he would stumble in the future, he and Coach Matt planned for him, and together they got over the hump.

Since then, they’ve worked together for almost two months (and counting), and Josh has only missed one day of check-in and one missing day hasn’t triggered Josh’s usual “all or nothing” behavior!

This time may be different

We are all destined to change, and even when we realize it…

We often bite off more than we can chew:

email

Our goals and expectations often override the reality that we are infallible, busy, and complex human beings.

never mind!

If we know these things, if we can try differently… even if it is next to The test doesn’t work, remove that strategy from the list of successful methods and try again.

That’s just what life is all about anyway: try, fail, fix, restart.
