As I mentioned on me The last post Last week I finished my group ride with a handlebar grip as I got off the bike. It rested pretty heavy on my derriere as well as my head. My head was well protected by my helmet, and later that day I got a replacement from a bike shop with a better level of safety. Thanks to the helmet my head was not hurt at all. I got some whiplash which luckily didn't affect my cervical spine but hurt my neck muscles for a few days. My back was fine, nothing broken, but the natural cushioning provided by my knee muscles took the brunt of the damage and those muscles were very sore. I took it easy for a few days, but still managed to train the upper body hard. Yesterday was my first long, hard ride, and everything felt so much better. It's good to learn from a mistake like I did and bounce back from it.
