Davies’ injury setback keeps Postecoglou in a ‘tight spot’

Depleted Tottenham will be without Ben Davies at home to Wolves on Sunday after the defender suffered a setback in his return from a hamstring injury.

Wales international Davies has not featured since Spurs’ 1-0 defeat by Bournemouth on December 5 and manager Ange Postecoglou expects the 31-year-old to miss a further “few weeks”.

Centre-back Radu Dragusin is a doubt after being forced off during Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest on Thursday, adding to an injury list that also includes Mickey van de Ven and Christian Romero.

Spurs v Wolves: ‘Another Test’

“We are in a difficult place and have been for some time,” Postecoglou said. “The nature of football and the fixture schedule means we’ve always been on a fine line. It’s another test for us.”

Tottenham’s only clean sheet in their last nine games came at bottom side Southampton, who scored four goals less than any other team in the top flight.

Postecoglou, who moved 18-year-old Archie Gray from midfield to defense to help ease the situation, said it was “a bit early to say” whether Dragusin would be involved at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“He tweaked his ankle and felt like he couldn’t go on,” the Australian added after Anthony Elanga scored the game’s only goal. “We’ll have to wait and see.”

Tottenham results

Spurs have lost four of their last five league games, with their 5-0 win at the Saints on December 15 their only win in their last six in the top flight.

Wolves won 2-0 at home to Manchester United on Thursday and made it back-to-back wins since the appointment of Vitor Pereira as manager.

They are now eighth top scorers in the division and have a point ahead of third-bottom Leicester City.
