Newucasel has found a way to win, says Howe

Newucasel manager Eddie How has praised his side that was not distracted by the upcoming Wembley League Cup final to collect a very needed victory in the West Ham Premier League.

Captain Bruno Gimaraes scored the only goal of the game to lift Maggie to sixth place in the table.

They are now facing Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday for Chacens to lift a trophy for the first time in 70 years.

Howe said: “This was one of our best wins of the season, not in terms of performance, but the desire and the heart.

“We have shown all the great ingredients you need to be a successful team. You need to win when the game is tight and find a way to overcome the line. We defended really well after the first three minutes that were a little frightening. We deserved the victory.

“So it was such a good victory for me, it would be easy for players to be distracted, but they were present. Now we will focus fully on Liverpool. We will consider everything.

“I felt we needed a win to get into the final with a real boost and lift.”

The defeat for West Ham leaves them in 16th place, with boss Graham Potter unhappy with the only goal of the game.

He said: “I thought it was a dedicated performance from us.

“The game dropped and flowing. We are disappointed with the goal, it looks like two hands in the back of our cross.

“We had a few moments, not enough to win it, but we were committed enough to get enough of the game.

“We tried to turn to the foundation and give us some stability. As I said, the effort, application and desire to run back and suffer for each other were there.

“On the back of two wins, it was not built in one day. We have to move step-by-step. You have to keep moving. “
