“We believe in Villa Park”

Unai Emery insists that his side of Aston Villa still have faith despite falling 3-1 to PSG in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in Paris on Wednesday.

Morgan Rogers gave Villa a surprise advantage in the tumultuous Des Prince after 35 minutes, but the sublime goals of Duu, Quicka Quaratkelia and Nuno Mendes ended the comeback for the dominant League 1 champions.

The result means that Emery’s side has a monumental task on his hands in the second match, if they hope to advance in the last four of the elite club match in Europe.

But Villa boss believes his team’s home support has the opportunity to cause anxiety next week at Villa Park.

“More or less expectation I had in 90 minutes (tonight) happened,” Emery admitted.

“The result, maybe there is not much difference between 2-1 and 3-1 because we will play at home next week. It will still be a huge challenge for us, but we can feel strong at home with our support.

“We knew before the match, we should have been clinically and we were clinically in the first half. The second half did not.

“The match is the first match. Of course the result is not good for us, but it can be positive to be at home where we can get our intensity and use our power.

“We believe in our support, we believe in Villa Park. We believe the players can make the best performance next week.”

Rogers repeated his manager’s feelings, adding that the players have nothing to lose.

“We have another leg to try and turn it around and go to everything and try to conquer the tie and, after all, we will see where it brings us,” Rogers said.

“We didn’t want to come here (Paris) and only be viewers. We wanted to participate and try and compete and felt we had done it for great parts. Obviously, the result is not great, but we have another game and we will try to turn it.

“We have quality in the dressing room. We are here for a reason. We want to fight, we want to try and win and in the end, we have enough quality to cause any team in world problems.

“We have nothing to lose. No one was supposed to win the tie in the first place, so why not just stand for it. That’s the mentality I have, it’s the mentality we all have and the manager has.

“We just have to keep looking for that and believe that we can do it and see where it brings us. We definitely have the quality to turn this one, so it’s not yet done.”

Villa greeted PSG at Villa Park on Tuesday night, starting at 8pm in the UK.
