I found useful research on Clarence Bass’s website over here. A Research Strength training among retirees is important to maintain muscle mass. The study compared groups doing heavy resistance training with a moderate intensity group as well as a control group that did no exercise. Muscle mass was successfully preserved after four years only for the intensive resistance group. The heavy resistance group used weight machines while the moderate group used resistance bands and body weight exercises. I want to clarify that you can still lift heavy using resistance bands, you just have to use more.
Bottom line, heavy! Clarence emphasizes this all the time and I have mentioned it a time or so. It’s good to see such clear research confirmed, especially for us adults.
