Favorite TV News Anchor from Georgia fell into a precipice during a walk – prompting emergency response teams to mount a daring rescue.
Carol Sbardge, who worked for WSB-TV for nearly three decades, went on a September hike with a friend in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Her peaceful hike turned into a disaster when she tumbled down a steep ravine.
“So somehow, as I was walking down the path, my foot hit a rock. And before I knew it, I just went down that gully,” she told WSB-TV.

She broke her ankle in three places during the fall, she told the publication.
Her friend first – unsuccessfully – tried to call the emergency services for help, but their remote location prevented the call from going through.

after all, another tourist came to their rescue and pulled off the remote trail to contact Habersham County EMS.
Teams have arrived on the scene after walking two miles up the trail and quickly assessing the steep drop off where Sbarge had fallen. The local paper reported that they used ropes and a helicopter to slowly pull her out of the ravine.
Officials said this was the first time they had airlifted a hiker at Panther Creek Falls.
Sbarge was airlifted by helicopter and flown 3.6 miles before being admitted to a local hospital. She told the local shop that she needed eight screws and a metal plate in her ankle.

“They are just special people. They put themselves at risk. You know, every day they don’t know what danger they’re going to face,” Sbarge told the publication, speaking of the rescuers.
